Iona Pacific Awarded Two Grants for Muslim, Jewish, Christian and Aboriginal Mothers
The Government of Canada, the Province of British Columbia, and the Isaac and Sophie Waldman Endowment Fund, are supporting Iona Pacific Inter-Religious Centre’s new parenting programs for Muslim, Jewish, Christian and Aboriginal mothers. These programs will enable women to learn about each other’s cultures and traditions, while exploring common practices and concerns in their roles as mothers. While remaining respectful of differences, this program aims to create a context for promoting personal friendships and bridging communities. The first workshop series will begin in January, and it is for mothers of elementary school-age children. IP Postdoctoral Fellow Rosa Sevy, PhD, who is also a licensed Clinical Counselor, will facilitate this five-part series of parenting workshops. This project is supported through funding from the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia. A subsequent program for mothers of teenagers, for which seed funding was provided by the Waldman Endowment Fund, will be launched later in 2011.
